Recently, I came across a Facebook post simply titled "Wesley Wednesday." It was posted by fellow Hoosier and pastor of a United Methodist Church, the Rev'd. Tim Powers. The post was, of course, a quote from John Wesley. As it turns out, Rev'd. Powers started his Wesley Wednesday posts the first of Advent. - I asked him if I could "steal" his idea, and with his permission, this is the first in my (hopefully regular!) Wesley Wednesday posts.
I do not fear that the people called Methodists shall ever cease to exist in Europe or America, I only fear that they shall exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion, but not the power thereof. And that undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast to the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out.
Thoughts from a pastor who understands himself to be classically Wesleyan in theology and who embraces a Wesleyan/Anglican view of liturgy and the sacraments.
